Car Accident Checklist
Print this or save it to your phone. In the stress of a collision it's easy to forget the details that matter most later.
- 1Check yourself and passengers for injury. Call 999 if anyone is hurt.
- 2Move to a safe place. Switch on hazard lights.
- 3Do not admit fault, even if you think you may be responsible.
- 4Get the other driver's name, address, phone and registration.
- 5Note the other driver's insurer and, if possible, policy number.
- 6Photograph both vehicles, the road, signs, and any debris.
- 7Speak to witnesses and get their contact details.
- 8Note the exact time, date and location.
- 9If police attend, record the officer's number and incident reference.
- 10Report to your insurer as soon as possible — even if you don't plan to claim.
