How to Make a Saga Car Insurance Claim
Not specified on the pages reviewed; Saga motor insurance is arranged and administered by Saga Services Limited
The short answer
Saga asks motor insurance customers to call its dedicated claims assistance number to report an accident or incident, after which Saga deals directly with any other party involved on your behalf. Windscreen and glass claims use separate numbers depending on your cover level.

Policy types: Saga car insurance is offered at three cover levels — Standard, Plus and Select — and the windscreen/glass claims number and excess you pay depend on which level you hold, so check your policy schedule to confirm your cover level before calling.
VIP Claims — independent
Was the accident not your fault?
If another driver was at fault, you may have options beyond claiming on your own Saga policy. VIP Claims Ltd is an independent accident management company and can check, free of charge, whether we're able to manage the claim for you. Eligibility depends on the circumstances of the accident, and nothing is guaranteed.
This is a VIP Claims contact number, not a Saga number. VIP Claims Ltd is not affiliated with or endorsed by Saga.
Step by step
How to start a Saga claim
- 1Call the Saga motor claims assistance number to report your accident or incident.
- 2If another party was involved, you don't need to exchange further details with them or their insurer — Saga will handle this once you've given them the details.
- 3For a windscreen or glass claim, call the number for your specific cover level (Saga Plus/Select or Saga Standard) rather than the general claims line.
- 4For panoramic sunroof damage, which isn't covered under glass claims, call the general Saga motor claims number instead.
Before you call
Information to have ready
- Policy number and vehicle registration
- Date, time and location of the incident
- Details of any other parties, vehicles and witnesses involved
- Description of the damage, including whether it affects the windscreen, glass or panoramic sunroof
- Your cover level (Saga Standard, Plus or Select), as this affects which windscreen number and excess apply
Our car accident checklist covers what to record at the scene.
What happens next
After you report the claim
- Saga's claims colleagues take your details over the phone when you first call.
- If another party was involved, Saga will deal with them and their insurer directly on your behalf, regardless of fault.
- For windscreen repairs by an approved repairer on Plus or Select policies, there's no charge; using an alternative repairer or replacement incurs an excess.
Costs
Excess and your no-claims discount
For windscreen repairs, Saga Plus and Select policyholders pay no excess if they use an approved repairer, or a £25 excess with an alternative repairer; a windscreen replacement carries a £75 excess with an approved repairer, or a £75 excess with alternative repairers capped at £100 cover. Saga Standard policyholders pay a £25 excess for approved repairs and £100 for a replacement. Excess and no-claims discount effects for other types of claim depend on your policy; check your schedule for details.
Your policy schedule sets your compulsory and voluntary excess — check it before assuming an amount. See also our guide to non-fault claims.
Staying mobile
Courtesy car or replacement vehicle
Courtesy car availability depends on your policy's cover level; check your policy schedule and wording to confirm what applies to your Saga Standard, Plus or Select policy.
Provided under your own cover, usually only while the car is with an approved repairer, and typically a small standard model.
Where another driver is at fault and you are eligible, a like-for-like vehicle may be arranged as part of the claim against them.
A hire vehicle supplied on credit, with the cost pursued from the at-fault insurer. Subject to eligibility and your obligations if the claim fails.
None of these is automatic. Read more in our replacement vehicle guide.
Repairs
Approved repairers and your choice of garage
Saga has approved repairers for windscreen and glass work, and using one keeps or reduces your excess compared with choosing an alternative repairer. For other vehicle repairs, ask your claims handler about Saga's approved repairer options.
Your options
If the accident wasn't your fault
After a non-fault accident you generally have three routes. Which suits you depends on your cover, your excess, and how quickly you need a vehicle.
Claim through Saga
- Simplest single point of contact.
- Your excess is usually payable first and recovered later if liability is admitted.
- The claim is recorded against your policy, which can affect renewal even when you are not at fault.
Claim against the at-fault insurer
- No excess payable to your own insurer.
- You deal directly with the other side, which can be slower if liability is disputed.
- You are responsible for evidencing your losses.
Use an independent accident manager
- VIP Claims can handle repairs, recovery and the claim where you are eligible.
- Services are subject to eligibility and the circumstances of the accident.
- Not guaranteed, and not a substitute for your policy obligations.
Whichever route you choose, most motor policies require you to notify your own insurer of the accident, even if you do not make a claim on your own policy. Check the notification condition in your policy wording.

Existing claims
Tracking an existing Saga claim
To follow up on a claim you've already reported, contact Saga using the same claims assistance number you used to report it, or the appropriate windscreen number for your cover level if it's a glass claim.
If something goes wrong
Complaining about a Saga claim
Saga's help centre directs motor insurance queries, including complaints, to its claims assistance and policy contact numbers; if a complaint about your Saga motor policy can't be resolved directly, it may be possible to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
